PRESS RELEASE
Natural Forms Works in Electica is an exhibition of works by Cathie Edlington, Anna Warren and Margaret Westcott.
As the name suggests, Natural Forms Works in Electica, are artworks which come from three different areas of ideas, mediums and inspirations. Cathie, Anna and Margaret have been painting together for many years at the Workshop and this exhibition is a wonderful display of inspiration and diversity from these artists.
Anna’s paintings are based on close-up details of plant forms, looking deep into the heart of the fruit, flower or leaves – some from the unusual plants found in the wild in Western Australia, others from random images found in gardening magazines. Through the painting process the natural forms emerge, whether it be human or plant.
Cathie is studying Fine Arts at COFA majoring in textiles. Her works in this exhibition represent her explorations into textiles. Cathie is captivated by the movement of the water, the sand and the plants and the sometimes gentle, sometimes chaotic marks that are left behind. Her works in textiles and paintings reflect what Cathie says ‘the ephemeral nature of what is left behind”
Margaret’s artworks also reflect her recent postgraduate studies at COFA. Her paintings and digital images reflect her studies in life drawing and painting from life. She is inspired by the beauty of the female form and its connection to the landscape. This inspiration flows on to the female torsos, the wonder of clay, firing and glazes.
The Exhibition opens on Friday 8th April 6 – 8pm and will run until May 5, 2011. People interested in viewing this exhibition will also have the opportunity of attending an Artist’s Q & A on Saturday 16th April 1- 3pm.
